It's time for a new voyage of the Beagle.

Beagle3

is a global, innovative, science outreach project that will take a tall ship on the route of the original voyage of HMS Beagle.

Charles Darwin was only 22 when he set out on the voyage but his experiences led him to the most important theory in the history of biological science. Natural selection.

Science is more important today than ever before – our planet is facing problems that can only be solved in the long term by the next generation of leaders, scientists and policy makers..but how do we empower this generation to take on the ultimate challenge?

It's time for a new voyage of the Beagle.

Education

By engaging with local communities – schools, universities and educational outreach activity groups –the excitement of science will come alive in practical, hands-on activities that will include direct, live interaction with the ship and with other communities via the Beagle network, a global schools’ network that will bring teachers and students together.

Science

The project will be fronted by selected Ambassadors, young scientists, researchers or enthusiastic science communicators of roughly the same age as Darwin on his voyage, role models for their own and younger generations, operating at the major locations that Beagle 3 will visit. They will be supported by expert Mentors, consultants who are leaders in their own fields.

Our objectives

Science is more important today than ever before – there is no longer any real doubt that our planet is facing problems that can only be solved in the long term by the next generation of leaders, scientists and policy makers.. but how do we empower this generation to take on the ultimate challenge?

It’s time for a new voyage of the Beagle.

  • To take a traditional tall ship round the world to promote science as exciting, on-going, modern, and “cool” to young people via active participation of voyages and expeditions
  • To document and live broadcast outreach activities via traditional and new generation media communications to broadcast media and a new schools network.
  • To create and operate a new international online schools collaboration network for teachers and students with real time educational content plus active international field expeditions.
  • To develop an international showcase education science outreach base and operate international exchange schools expeditions in Chile, in conjunction with Fundación Beagle (CL).
  • To create an ongoing legacy for the City of Bristol to the world of science and natural history media, communications and technology innovation, engineering and commercial marine heritage.

Science Matters

“It is not the strongest of the species that survives, nor the most intelligent that survives. It is the one most adaptable to change.”
Charles Darwin

On The Future of Species

By revisiting locations Darwin experienced, we bring his science up to date – we empower the next generation of scientists and policy-maker.

Multi-national Outreach

Beagle3 will recreate the voyage of the Beagle using a fully restored, authentic tall ship, in a unique, landmark, global science outreach project.

Global Issues

Climate change, conservation, habitat loss, world poverty can only be solved by science.. Beagle3 will promote science as exciting and inspiring to young people across the world.

International Schools Network

A linked, collaborative and interactive network for students and teachers with bespoke subjects and themes relevant to curricular studies, incorporating actions, and locations.

Live Interaction Between Ship And Classroom

Satellite links allow pupils to monitor the ship and interact with crew. Classroom contact with Beagle Ambassadors.

Expeditions

Opportunities for pupils to meet the ship at locations en route and take part in field expeditions providing real adventure and hands-on learning experiences.

Broadcast Media

Beagle3 will document and live broadcast outreach activities via traditional and new generation media communications to broadcast media and the schools network.

Chile
